Chedure Sanders’ NFL Journey: Insights from Johnny Manziel

When it comes to navigating the complexities of an NFL training camp, few understand better than Johnny Manziel. The former first-round pick of the Browns in 2014 has taken notice of Chedure Sanders as he embarks on his own journey with the team this summer.

Manziel expressed optimism about Sanders’ performance both in training camp and the preseason. “At this point, it’s well prepared,” Sanders said during an interview. Manziel echoed this sentiment, noting that Sanders seems to be adjusting to the quarterback role in the NFL quite well.

“It fits everything that comes with being in the league,” Manziel mentioned. He also has shed light on the scrutiny Sanders faced leading up to the draft—there were definitely concerns regarding how well he handled the pre-draft process, which likely contributed to his drop to a fifth-round selection by Cleveland.

Having known Sanders’ family, including Chedure’s father, the football Hall of Famer Dion, Manziel commented, “He’s not your typical player you see around the league. I think he made the right choices along the way, while still being true to himself.”

Last weekend, Sanders showcased his skills in his first preseason game against the Panthers, completing 14 of 20 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns. His performance may have eased some fears about his earlier draft status.

However, this week hasn’t been without its challenges for Sanders. After feeling some discomfort during practice with the Eagles, it seems he won’t participate in the upcoming preseason game against them. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski stressed the importance of being cautious with his recovery, saying, “We’ll take it day by day and see how it goes. He’s a thrower, and we can’t rush this.”

So, while Sanders has shown promise and resilience, it appears that the journey ahead requires careful navigation—something both he and Manziel fully understand.
