Johnson sidesteps question on whether Trump lost 2020 election: ‘This is a gotcha game’

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) dodged a question on Sunday about whether former President Trump lost the 2020 presidential election, saying the presidential election is a “nasty game” and that Trump won't play. said.

ABC's George Stephanopolis asked Johnson on “This Week” if he could “unequivocally” say Trump lost the last election.

“This is a game that the mainstream media plays all the time with powerful Republicans. It's a Gotcha game. You're talking about the future, and you want us to litigate something that happened four years ago.” Johnson answered. “We're not going to talk about what happened in 2020. We're going to talk about 2024 and how we're going to solve the problems of the American people.”

President Trump's running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), similarly dodged questions during last week's debate, refusing to answer whether President Trump lost in 2020, instead saying, He drew criticism for saying, “We are focusing on this.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Sunday that he works with Biden “all the time” but that he “doesn't want to get involved” in matters related to 2020.

“Everyone needs to get through this and move on. That's what we need to talk about. What happens on November 5th and the day after,” Johnson said.

Stephanopoulis asked Johnson whether he, like Vance, would not say that Trump lost the 2020 election to Biden.

“Joe Biden is in his fourth year as president. There are no questions about this, okay? It's already been done and decided and this is a nasty game to be played and I'm not going to play it.” No,” Johnson said.

Stephanopoulis argued that President Trump's refusal to accept the results of the previous election is a problem as November 5 approaches.

“George, I'm not going to play games. Ask me about any issue facing this country,” Johnson said, changing his words. “What about another hurricane coming towards this country? What about Israel being bombarded by Iran? What about the rising crime rate that everyone is concerned about in this country, and the hard-working families? What about the cost of living for not being able to afford that?”
