House Speaker Mike Johnson and Israeli Counterpart Support Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize Nomination
House Speaker Mike Johnson from Louisiana is teaming up with Amir Ohana, the Speaker of the Israeli Knesset, to support a nomination for President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in addressing the Gaza conflict.
On Tuesday, Johnson shared plans to collaborate with Ohana to encourage lawmakers and international leaders to back Trump’s nomination. He emphasized the current global focus on Israel, especially as Trump welcomed home the last hostage released after two years under Hamas control.
Johnson recounted a video where a freed hostage mentioned that, following the recent U.S. elections, Hamas had shown improved treatment towards the hostages. They were fed better, and their treatment became more humane, which was, well, quite striking.
According to Johnson, some hostages hinted that Hamas preferred Kamala Harris to prevail in the upcoming 2024 presidential election, thinking she might offer them favorable conditions.
Johnson expressed pride in joining forces with Ohana, stating that they are working to gather support from global parliamentary leaders to nominate Trump for the Nobel Prize, asserting that he is deserving, and it seems everyone should acknowledge that.
Ohana echoed these sentiments, referring to Trump as a “president of peace” and acknowledging his contributions in resolving conflicts in multiple regions worldwide. He highlighted that Trump had quickly become one of the most impactful presidents in history, with his leadership saving numerous lives. Reflecting on a saying, Ohana noted that saving a single life is akin to saving the whole world.
In conclusion, he stated, along with Johnson, that they are mobilizing speakers from parliaments globally to push for Trump’s nomination, reinforcing that no one else deserves it more.
On a side note, the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Colina Machado stands as a reminder of the award’s significance amidst global conflicts.
