The finalized version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for the 2026 fiscal year was unveiled on Sunday evening. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) stated that the legislation is designed to support President Donald Trump’s “peace through strength” initiative. It aims to solidify 15 executive orders and enhance national security.
The House plans to vote on the bill later this week. Johnson’s office mentioned it focuses on countering antisemitism and addressing programs like Critical Race Theory (CRT), Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and climate change that could hinder military readiness.
If it passes Congress and is signed into law, the NDAA would provide a 4% pay increase for enlisted personnel, facilitate the deployment of National Guard and active-duty members to the U.S.-Mexico border to combat illegal immigration and drug trafficking, and bolster military cooperation with Israel.
Republicans hope to improve military efficiency by cutting $20 billion in what they call “outdated weapons, inefficient programs, and Pentagon bureaucracy.”
The NDAA also allocates funding to speed up the creation and deployment of “space capabilities” to contend with nuclear threats from China and Russia, according to the Office of the Chairman.
Another prominent feature includes a prohibition on contracts with firms like NewsGuard Technologies Inc., which has been accused of blacklisting conservative news outlets.
“This year’s NDAA will support the goals of President Trump and the Republican Party’s ‘peace through strength’ strategy,” Johnson remarked after the text was revealed. He noted it codifies Trump’s executive orders, eliminates “woke ideologies” from the military, fortifies border security, revitalizes the defense industrial sector, and seeks to restore a combative spirit within the armed forces.
He further emphasized the bill’s critical provisions, stating they are essential for maintaining the military’s dominance and readiness to deter any threats. Johnson also pointed to Trump’s views on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and outlined tax cuts aimed at reinforcing the middle class.
Trump has clearly stated that the U.S. must end decades of investments that have bolstered China’s aggressive posture. This bill includes vital measures to safeguard long-term American investments and sensitive information. The NDAA builds upon key investments detailed in the Working Families Tax Cut, ensuring that the U.S. maintains both economic and military strength to deter adversaries and defend its interests globally. This legislation aims to enhance the lives of U.S. military personnel by offering deserved pay raises and ensuring access to the latest military technology.
Under Trump’s leadership, the U.S. is reallocating its power, re-establishing deterrence, and signaling that it will not retreat. The 2026 NDAA is poised to fulfill that vision.
Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), also voiced his backing for the bill, asserting that it will uphold Trump’s vision of peace through strength and safeguard America’s security.
He highlighted the bill’s potential to resolve inefficiencies in Pentagon procurement processes and equip the military with necessary tools to respond swiftly to threats, rather than waiting extended periods for new technologies to be developed.
“I aim to deliver this to President Trump’s desk to ensure our military remains the most agile, capable, and lethal force globally,” the chairman concluded.
