Concerns About Biden’s Mental and Physical Health Raised
The hosts of “Pod Save America” and Jon Stewart have expressed doubts regarding former President Joe Biden’s mental acuity following the release of the book “Original Sin” by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson. In a recent podcast episode, Stewart remarked about the challenges people face when discussing Biden’s health, saying, “You don’t understand. I’m sitting with this guy. He’s the smartest in the room. I can barely keep up with him!” He shared his admiration for Biden’s impressive vocabulary, admitting he sometimes had to look up the words Biden used, noting, “He is the smartest man in the world.”
On the other hand, “Original Sin” highlights the attempts by Biden’s closest aides to conceal the realities of his health, suggesting that he was often confused and disoriented during his presidency.
During the same podcast episode, Stewart pointed out how Biden’s allies seemed to think they could control public perception of him. He echoed sentiments expressed by Kamala Harris, who stated, “You don’t see it.” This seemed to suggest that there were fears surrounding Biden’s stamina and cognition that they were hesitant to address openly.
John Favreau, who served as the chief speechwriter for former President Barack Obama, commented that Biden’s inner circle was not entirely forthcoming about his decline. He remarked that while some might look at statistics validating Biden’s presidency, many voters felt the economic pressures impacting their lives and, in turn, were less swayed by the media narratives.
Favreau also touched on a larger issue within the Democratic Party — a struggle to confront and communicate tough truths to voters. He noted, “Over the past few years, we have struggled to admit hard truths to ourselves.” His thoughts reflect an ongoing tension within the party when addressing concerns about Biden’s age and effectiveness.
In another segment, Favreau suggested that worries over Biden’s health have been underestimated. He mentioned how the primary concern for many is Biden’s age, which often overshadows other political narratives. When discussing Biden’s appearances, he noted that the president seemed more delicate than in prior years, attributing this more to physical decline rather than cognitive sharpness.
Co-host Tommy Vietor appeared to agree, asserting that discussions surrounding Biden’s age often suffer from unfair comparisons. Furthermore, Biden recently disclosed a diagnosis of prostate cancer, intensifying concerns about his health as he approached the 2024 election cycle.
Despite these discussions and differing perspectives, the context surrounding Biden’s health remains ambiguous, leaving much to be considered as the political landscape evolves.
