Jon Stewart calls refusal to listen to voters’ concerns about Biden a threat to democracy

Jon Stewart slammed Democrats for ignoring voter fears and keeping President Biden in the election, accusing them of essentially telling Americans to “yes or shut up.”

The host of “The Daily Show” bluntly stated that Biden’s support for his “stuffy gerontocracy” is a threat to “our democracy” in light of his astonishing performance in the debate.

“The arthritic inability or unwillingness to respond to voters’ concerns when they receive urgent new information about candidates erodes trust and confidence in our system of government,” Stewart said. he warned during a monologue on Monday night.

“‘Agree or shut up’ isn’t a particularly compelling pro-Democracy bumper sticker, nor is ‘What are you going to do?'” Stewart said of Democrats’ unwillingness to listen to voters’ growing concerns.

Stewart also mocked the claim that with four months until the election there is no time to replace Biden.

“Four months is ridiculous!” he said. “The UK just had their elections in two months. France had two elections in one month, defeated fascism and still had time to have a relationship with Denmark,” he joked.

“Some of the contestants on ‘The Bachelor’ have gotten married and divorced between now and the election without even meeting each other. We just have time,” he joked.

Stewart said Democrats, at the very least, need to take aggressive action to reassure disappointed voters.

“Can’t you stress test this candidate?” Stewart asked.

“Can’t we start a conversation? Do we understand the opportunity here? Do we realize how desperately Americans are for inspiration, a hint of leadership, and freedom from the choice between megalomania and stifling gerontocracy?”

Stewart ended his monologue by suggesting that voters could essentially hold something like a democratic convention.

What you need to know about the impact of President Biden’s debate performance:

“On Monday, anyone can pitch how they can make our democracy more responsive to the people it is meant to serve.”

“On Tuesday, the winner will advance to the next round to face Biden… On Thursday, the party will emerge energized, united and sanctified in what will be four days of televised campaigning,” he continued.

“So ignore the obvious weaknesses in your team’s fight for existence for freedom and democracy and stick with this until November. Or follow the advice of your candidate…” Stewart said, playing footage of Biden saying there are “about 50” Democrats who could beat Donald Trump in the election.
