Jon Stewart Mocks Maduro’s Arrest
Jon Stewart took a humorous jab at the arrest of Nicolas Maduro, the Venezuelan dictator, suggesting he was like “reverse ICE” brought into the United States.
On Monday’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Stewart contrasted Maduro’s arrest with the recent deportations of many undocumented immigrants. “He was actually moved to a prison in Brooklyn!” Stewart remarked. “But don’t feel sorry for him; he was a fearsome dictator.”
During a news segment, Stewart shared a clip of Maduro wearing a large straw hat and singing Bobby McFerrin’s “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” which got a hearty laugh from the audience. “Bobby McFerrin doing karaoke? What a monster,” he quipped.
Earlier in the show, he also dived into U.S. operations aimed at ousting dictators. When a photo of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and President Trump appeared, Stewart quickly responded, “That’s not the right picture.”
“I think they’re actually friends and, frankly, business partners,” Stewart continued, prompting more laughter from the crowd.
He displayed a friendly handshake between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, remarking, “Well, they seem pretty close too.” Then, addressing a photo of Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, he mused, “Yeah, I think there’s more of a ‘hot rivalry’ vibe between these two, you know what I mean?”
On the topic of Maduro, Stewart said, “Maduro led a repressive regime that wrecked his country, silenced critics, and caused countless deaths. But the golden era of his a cappella terror ended when U.S. special forces raided Caracas on Friday night.”
While showing a photo of a blindfolded Maduro, Stewart joked that authorities “snatched” him from his bedroom, “before he could even take off his eye mask.”
“His Oura ring must have been like, ‘I’ve had a bad night,’” Stewart added. “Meanwhile, Donald Trump was observing everything from a secure location—his Situation Tent at Mar-a-Lago.”
A follow-up image displayed Trump and officials hidden behind a curtain. “I don’t want to be a nuisance, but is this really the safest spot in Mar-a-Lago? Hiding behind a curtain in front of a catering kitchen?” Stewart quipped.
