Details Emerge About ICE Officer Involved in Shooting in Minneapolis

The ICE officer who shot and killed protester Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis is described as a Trump supporter, a Christian veteran, and married to a Filipina woman, according to statements from his family.

Jonathan Ross, aged 43, was named as the agent who discharged his weapon after federal officials reported that Mr. Good attempted to run him down with an SUV on a suburban street.

In the midst of anti-ICE protests sweeping the nation and heated rhetoric from Democratic leaders following the incident, Ross’ family defended him fiercely, telling a reporter, “You couldn’t have asked for a kinder, more gentle person.”

His father, Ed Ross, expressed pride in his son, stating, “He’s a devoted, conservative Christian, a great father, and a great husband.”

Ross, an Iraq war veteran, married his wife in 2012, though her name has not been disclosed. Reports indicate that her parents are medical professionals residing in the Philippines.

His father mentioned that Ross’ wife is a U.S. citizen, but he was hesitant to disclose how long she has lived in the country.

Previously, his wife shared a social media image next to a helicopter used by the U.S. Border Patrol.

Ross is believed to have been part of ICE since at least 2013. He is stationed in Minneapolis and is a member of the ICE ERO Special Response Team, which is a tactical unit, according to law enforcement sources.

Background information about Ross surfaced after it was reported that he had been dragged over 100 meters during a traffic stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, in June of the previous year while dealing with an undocumented immigrant.

Documentation indicates that ICE agents stopped Roberto Carlos Muñoz, a repeat illegal immigrant from Guatemala with a significant criminal history. During this encounter, Ross allegedly broke the rear driver’s side window when Muñoz refused to exit the vehicle.

The suspect fled the scene, causing Ross’ arm to become trapped between the seat and the frame of the car, resulting in him being dragged for more than 100 yards, as noted by the Justice Department at the time.

Ross sustained severe injuries to his arm and hand, requiring hospitalization and 33 stitches; however, authorities reported he has since fully recovered.

In the aftermath of Wednesday’s shooting, President Trump praised Ross, asserting that he acted out of self-defense after a protester collided with his vehicle. Meanwhile, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem supported Ross’ actions and labeled the protesters as domestic terrorists.
