Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) secured a provision in the defense bill that would give the Pentagon the authority to combat drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles that cross U.S. borders.
“After four years of open borders under Biden, President Trump will build a wall to keep Americans safe,” Ernst said in a written statement. “There is,” he said.
“Murderous drug cartels and foreign adversaries have taken advantage of the previous administration’s chaos to fly unrestricted drones into U.S. airspace. Border security is national security, and Americans are protected from this growing threat. We need to take serious steps to protect our people,” she continued.
Mr. Ernst secured the provisions of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2025. The provision is intended to make it easier for the Department of Defense to use drones to combat foreign adversaries and drug cartels that cross U.S. borders.
Unidentified drones flying around the country are a problem across the United States, particularly in New Jersey and the Mid-Atlantic, where drones have flown over military installations in the Garden State.

Ernst recently cornered Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and demanded answers about how major tech platforms censor military recruiting content.
“Our freedom is only possible because of the long tradition of Americans, like myself, voluntarily serving and defending our country,” Ernst said in a written statement. .
She continued, “I'm worried that meta's algorithms are hindering our investments in connecting with and recruiting the next generation of warfighters. Sacrifice should be celebrated without restriction.”
