Port St. Lucy – A potentially complete rotation that includes reinforcements, Jose Boto's success in the bullpen last season was by facilitating the decision of Mets officials.
Buttó works as a savior in spring training.
“He hopes that his team will contribute to winning the game and do anything,” coach Carlos Mendoza said Thursday after Bato faced batters in live batting practice. “We used up him from that role last year, and he's comfortable, but who knows what happens all year round?”
Buttó becomes the rescuer of the multi-innings after thriving in that role last season.
In his 23 release appearances, he pitched 2.00 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 36 innings.
Buttó recorded at least four outs in 12 of 23 relief efforts.
“He learned a lot last year, and it's tough, it's shattering for him, and it's going deeper into October through the ups and downs,” Mendoza said. “When you're not feeling the best, you have to find a way to get the job done.”
According to Mendoza, the goal is to extend Bota to a 40-45 pitch with his appearance this spring.
“Physically, he's capable of it, he feels good and it was good to see him throw this live batting practice early,” Mendoza said.
Mendoza hopes to be able to use most of his relievers in this season's multi-inning duties if necessary, but Dedonier Nuñez returns from forearm tension that ended the season in August. They are people who are not considered for the kind of work that comes to them.

“We need to keep these people healthy,” Mendoza said. “[Núñez] It's a big part of that bullpen in the backend and we want to be careful with him. ”
AJ Minter, who has been rehabilitating from hip surgery, is another savior who said Mendoza is likely to be limited to one look.
