Josh Hart and Ben Stiller respond to the firing of Knicks' coach Tom Thibodeau

On Tuesday afternoon, NBA fans and players were taken aback as the Knicks parted ways with head coach Tom Thibodeau, just days after the team’s appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals.

According to a report from Stefan Bondy, team president Leon Rose felt this decision was a necessary step toward enhancing the team’s chances of winning a championship.

Knicks player Josh Hart shared his feelings on social media using orange and blue heart emojis. He remarked, “I’ll be grateful forever. Thank you!”

While Hart’s teammates have not commented publicly yet, there was a notable reaction from Kendra Randle, the ex-wife of former Knicks player Julius Randle. She posted a short video clip celebrating with a toast, accompanied by Italian flag emojis, which certainly drew attention.

Even celebrity Knicks fan and tennis icon John McEnroe weighed in during TNT’s broadcast of the French Open, expressing disappointment with a simple, “That’s a shame.”

Amid the chatter, Ben Stiller, a longtime Knicks supporter, also took to social media to share his appreciation for Thibodeau’s contributions to the team. He wrote, “I’m a Tom Thibodeau fan. He brought this team back. I felt he was giving everything he was doing and always trying to improve. I’m always grateful for how far he’s brought the Knicks. They’re once again relevant. They’re once again a championship contender.”

During an episode of ESPN’s SportsCenter, NBA insider Shams Charania noted that executives across the league were surprised by this move, suggesting it took many by surprise.

Current Knicks player Jalen Brunson, when asked about Thibodeau, had voiced confidence in his coaching ability over the weekend, responding affirmatively when questioned if Thibodeau was the right guy for the team.

Thibodeau had a five-season tenure with the Knicks, compiling a 226-174 record and guiding the team to the playoffs four times.

That run included a significant achievement, as the franchise made it to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000.

Rose’s statement reflected the team’s belief that a change was essential for moving forward in a positive direction.
