‘Josh Shapiro Un-Jewed Himself Publicly and Still Didn’t Get Picked’

Actor Michael Rapaport on Tuesday responded to Vice President Kamala Harris’ selection of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, mocking rival candidate Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro for pointlessly disparaging his pro-Israel views.

Shapiro, a young, attractive, moderate governor from a key battleground state, was considered the front-runner until anti-Israel wing of the Democratic Party opposed his pro-Israel views.

Some also considered the opposition anti-Semitic: Although Shapiro’s views are not all that different from those of Walz and the other candidates, he is Jewish, which drew disproportionate suspicion and hostility from some of the party’s most vocal anti-Israel voices.

In a last-ditch effort to defend his eligibility to run, Shapiro earlier this week recanted some of his previous pro-Israel views, saying they were the product of his childhood naivety.

In a post on Twitter, Rapaport held up Shapiro as an example of a Jew who has tried in vain to escape anti-Semitic prejudice by criticizing Israel.

As a JewRapaport was referring to the “Jewish freedom” phenomenon, which describes Jews using their identity to attack Israel, place undue weight on criticism of the Jewish community, and seek to elevate themselves through virtue signaling.

Others responded similarly to Shapiro’s refusal, pointing to anti-Semitism and mocking his attempts to quell it.

Rapaport has been an outspoken supporter of Israel, especially since the terrorist attacks on October 7. An avowed opponent of President Donald Trump, he recently acknowledged that he may have been wrong about Trump, at least on the issue of Israel, and said he was willing to put the past aside and vote for the Republican candidate.
