Mainstream media journalist John Harwood posted in June about the possibility of a presidential pardon for Hunter Biden, and was ridiculed and forgotten.
Harwood seemed to be mocking the character of those who don't believe President Joe Biden's statement that he will not pardon his son for numerous charges, including gun crimes and tax crimes.
“He is an example of why no one trusts the news media anymore.”
“Those who claim Biden will pardon Hunter with a special exclusion are telling themselves that.” he wrote“I can't imagine anyone acting on principles and keeping their promises.”
Mr. Harwood's tweet was later amended in a community note to document that Mr. Biden had indeed granted his son a sweeping pardon on Sunday, about six months later.
Critics took to social media to mock and ridicule Harwood, while others demanded a retraction and apology.
“This is a guy that CNBC, CNN, and the New York Times used to hire as an objective analyst. He's an example of why no one trusts news organizations anymore.” answered Talk radio host Erik Erickson.
“There are people like this. But Joe Biden was never one of them. Any attempt to pretend otherwise has fooled a huge number of people.” answered Charles CW Cook of National Review.
“One of these days John Harwood will be right about something.” said Author John Miltimore.
“Nothing to get right? Ever?” answered Commentator John Podhoretz.
“If you didn't expect something like this to happen and (in this case, smugly) insisted it wasn't going to happen, then I really think you should remove yourself from public life. ” said Joe Simonson of the Free Beacon.
Biden justified pardoning his son by claiming Hunter Biden was unfairly targeted for political reasons. Critics said the pardon was suspiciously broad in nature and hinted at the possibility of further criminal cover-ups.
Democratic Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said, “This is a bad precedent that could be exploited by future presidents and will sadly tarnish his reputation.” “Hunter brought upon himself the legal problems he faced, and one can sympathize with his struggle while at the same time recognizing that no one is above the law, including the president and the president's son. ”
