Jonathan Cain, the keyboardist and guitarist for Journey, recently criticized Bruce Springsteen, referring to him as an “annoying, bitter old man” and suggesting he should refrain from discussing politics. Cain remarked, “You’re ‘born in America,’ right? So act like it.”
Cain expressed contentment with his current location during a recent appearance on the tom bernard podcast. “I’m definitely a conservative,” he said. “I used to be a Democrat, but I just can’t go there anymore.”
“I thought Obama was the way, but then I saw his direction and thought, ‘Okay, I can’t do this anymore.’ So, I’m a die-hard conservative now,” Cain elaborated.
“And guys like Bruce Springsteen should shut up,” he continued. “Honestly, shut up, Bruce. And… who’s the other one? Robert De Niro? I mean, who cares, really? Just focus on your art.”

Cain, who recently released a song titled “The Winds of Freedom: A Salute to America” in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary, mentioned that he aims to keep politics out of his music. “I’m releasing this patriotic song because I’m a die-hard patriot,” he stated.
“I believe we should try to come together,” he added. “Our goal should be unity, and that reflects in Journey as well. People from both sides of the aisle enjoy singing ‘Don’t Stop Believin’.”
“When people say, ‘You’re a Christian and a conservative,’ I’m like, ‘So what?’ I don’t preach on stage or spend a lot of time discussing it,” Cain remarked.
He further commented, “I don’t think it’s right for celebrities to get too political. It doesn’t come off well.”
“So, Bruce, what’s going on? I used to like him, but now he’s just irritating. An annoying, bitter old man,” he concluded. “Let your work speak for itself. You’re ‘born in America,’ so act like it.”
Cain also noted that even Springsteen’s song “Born in the USA” could be seen as critical of the country.
Later last year, Cain released a song called “No One Else” honoring the conservative figure Charlie Kirk.

Cain is set to kick off his fall North American “Final Frontier” farewell tour with Journey in September.
Meanwhile, Springsteen has spent a lot of time this year criticizing President Donald Trump and wrapped up his anti-Trump American Hopes and Dreams tour in May.
In March, he made it clear that he wasn’t worried about losing fans while reinforcing his anti-Trump stance, saying, “I’m ready for all of that.”
Earlier this month, Springsteen labeled himself a “patriot” after his criticisms of President Trump.
