MSNBC host Rachel Maddow said on “The View” Tuesday that everyone at the show is worried if former President Donald Trump wins this year’s key election.
Liberals in the media have expressed concern that Trump will attack them for the negative comments he has made about them since his first presidential campaign, and their concerns have grown as Trump continues to perform well in the polls against President Joe Biden.
“I’m worried about all of us.”
“There’s been a lot of talk about Trump seeking retribution once he becomes president, whether it be legal issues, personal issues, haircuts, whatever. … You said recently that as an outspoken critic, you could find yourself a target. Some people might think that’s an exaggeration, but I agree. He’s so vengeful that I think he would go after him by any means necessary, perhaps through the IRS, or through sponsors, to get us or you off the air. How seriously should we take that?” host Joy Behar asked Maddow.
“They asked me, ‘Are you worried about yourself?’ And I said, ‘I’m worried about all of us.’ I’m not worried about myself as much as I’m worried about everyone in the country,” Maddow replied.
“I don’t think it’s OK for someone to say, ‘Give me all the power you can in this country, so that I can use it to go after other Americans, and I can use it to go after my subhuman enemies within and destroy them.’ That’s not a good system for anybody, and I don’t think it’s safe for anybody if that’s the basis for wanting to have more power,” she continued.
Behar argued that if Trump does indeed create an enemies list, those on it should wear it as a badge of honor.
Maddow noted that if Trump were to attack her or “The View,” they would “probably be OK” because they had the resources to fight back. Maddow previously told CNN she was worried Trump would bother to recruit her into his campaign for a second term.
