The View’s Discussion on Trump and Protests
Joy Behar, co-host of “The View,” expressed concerns on Tuesday that President Donald Trump may be trying to instigate chaos through protests to justify declaring martial law and potentially canceling the 2026 midterm elections.
Behar spoke during a segment about the recent protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in various U.S. cities, highlighting protests following the shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis. “I’m worried that President Trump wants this kind of chaos to continue,” she said. “He has even mentioned that if Democrats take control of Congress, he could face impeachment and possibly end up in prison.” This shows, perhaps, that his fears may drive him to extreme measures.
Another co-host, Whoopi Goldberg, took the opportunity to remind viewers of their rights during protests. “Let’s be clear,” she stated, “not all ICE agents are out of control. Some are competent and simply underappreciated in their roles.” However, she emphasized that while people have the right to protest, they must also act respectfully. “You can’t spit on people. That’s just rude,” she noted, encouraging protesters to express their dissent without crossing lines.
Goldberg also offered advice from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) for those participating in protests, suggesting they stay calm and keep their hands visible. Interesting to think about, isn’t it? It helps maintain order.
Previously, Behar had insinuated that Trump might use the National Guard to prevent future elections, suggesting that there could be attempts to restrict voting rights. “This is just an excuse,” she remarked, “to stop the next election. If they take away our right to vote, what do we have left?”
Goldberg echoed that sentiment, remarking, “Our votes are what set us apart from many countries. They truly matter.” It’s a powerful thought—one that resonates with many who value the democratic process.
