Tragic Shooting in North Carolina Claims Life of Joy Rogers

A mass shooting in Southport, North Carolina, claimed three lives on Saturday night, including Joy Rogers, a recently retired mother of three. Joy had relocated to Southport from California with her family just a year prior.

Her husband, Lenny Rogers, shared his grief in a statement, describing Joy as a devoted wife and nurturing mother. “She had such a genuine spirit,” he said, “always radiating joy and kindness to everyone around her.”

The Living Word Bible Church, which was part of her community, also expressed sorrow over her passing, emphasizing her role as a loving figure within their congregation. They asked for prayers for her family during this tough time.

Investigation into the Shooting

Authorities have labeled the shooting as a “very planned” attack. The incident took place at the American Fish Company around 9:30 PM, during a time when the restaurant was lively with patrons enjoying music, blending into the vibrant atmosphere.

Investigators identified Nigel Max Edge, a 40-year-old military veteran, as the shooter. He allegedly set himself up on a boat off the restaurant’s deck before opening fire. Witnesses reported chaos as people scrambled for safety, and the sound of gunfire filled the air.

Edge has been charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder and attempted murder. During his court appearance, where he logged in via video, he did not enter a plea. The judge denied him bail, citing both flight risk and danger to the community. His next court date is set for October 13.

In the aftermath, authorities recovered a .300 Blackout rifle and a handgun from Edge, indicating the premeditated nature of his actions. Details surrounding the shooting continue to unfold, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
