Juan Soto Leads Mets to Victory Over Tigers

Detroit – On Monday, the Mets showed their strength, turning the game into Juan Soto’s showcase.

Soto’s contributions were crucial as the Mets faced another starting pitcher struggle. They really needed to kick off this 10-game road trip on a positive note.

In the fourth inning, Soto launched a grand slam that gave the Mets the lead. Even when that advantage slipped away, he came through again with a two-run triple in the sixth, which turned the tide back in the Mets’ favor.

Ultimately, the Mets secured a 10-8 win against the Tigers at Comerica Park.

Soto kicked off September with a bang, racking up six RBIs and showcasing an impressive performance after finishing August with a 1.009 OPS and 10 home runs.

After snapping a two-game losing streak, the Mets continued their recent offensive surge, reaching double digits in runs for the third time in the past eight games.

Meanwhile, they also maintained a four-game lead over Cincinnati for the National League’s third and final wild-card spot.

Sean Manaea, despite his struggles, took to the mound but only managed to pitch through three and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs while striking out six batters and giving up eight hits with one walk. His ERA has now climbed to 5.60 after failing to complete five innings in his last few starts.

The Tigers got off to a quick start when Jahmai Jones launched the first pitch of the game for a home run, giving them an immediate lead.

In the second inning, Lewis Torrens helped the Mets regain ground with a two-run double off Charlie Morton. Mark Bientos contributed a hit in his second consecutive game before Jeff McNeill added a single, allowing Cedric Mullins to advance with a sacrifice bunt. Torrens capitalized, hitting a shot past third base to score both runners.

However, the Tigers fought back, with Wenselperez hitting a two-run homer that put the Mets down 3-2. Manaea struggled with his control during this stretch, walking Grebertores before Perez’s blast.

Soto then hit his second career grand slam, marking his first with the Mets, reclaiming the lead for the team. After loading the bases with some smart base running, Soto stepped up and delivered, marking a significant moment in his season.

Still, the struggle wasn’t over for Manaea. An RBI triple from Zach McKinley and Jones’ two-out single clawed the Mets’ lead back to 6-5 before Torres concluded a challenging outing for Manaea.

Spencer Torkelson added to the chaos, scoring on a wild pitch that allowed the Tigers to breathe down the Mets’ necks.

Soto’s sixth two-run triple increased the Mets’ lead to 8-6. He capped off his impressive day with six RBIs, particularly shining during critical moments. Brandon Nimmo continued the rally with a two-out single that brought Soto home.

Brett Batty then added to the Mets’ advantage with an RBI groundout in the seventh inning, pushing the score to 10-6 after McNeill reached on an error and Mullins walked.

In the bottom half of the inning, Ryan Helsley faced some difficulties, allowing two hits and a run before he managed to close out the game.

A double from Jones and a groundout by Perez brought the Tigers closer at 10-8, prompting the Mets to call on Edwin Diaz for the save.
