After Kohberger’s arrest, she told police he had no idea about him and had never seen him before. Prosecutors claimed he was not known to the victims before the crime and committed the murder using a large knife.
They also pointed to a 2020 university essay he wrote about dealing with criminal justice class murder scenes, claiming he was familiar with the crime scene proceedings and the concept of transferring evidence and knew how to avoid it.

Kohberger’s expert testimony on autism diagnosis would only be relevant if he needed to explain his mannerism after taking the witness position in his own defense, Hippler wrote.
“At that point, the defendant’s attitude leads to his credibility — is relevant evidence that the ju judge can consider, and the state has recognized,” the judge wrote. “However, before presenting testimony on this issue, the defendant must raise an issue with a court that is not presenting ju apprentices to discuss the extent permitted.”

He later reserved the right to control Kohberger’s claim of obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Kohberger is charged with four counts of first-degree murder and felony robbery in the stinging deaths of University of Idaho students Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin.
The judge entered into a plea of innocence on his behalf. The prosecutor informed the court that he intends to seek the death penalty if he is found guilty.
The trial is scheduled to begin on August 11th.
