Judge hears Trump’s First Amendment challenge to Georgia charges: Watch live

The judge overseeing former President Trump’s Georgia election interference case is moving forward with a series of pretrial motions after weeks of delays due to misconduct at the Fulton County Prosecutor’s Office.

Judge Scott McAfee is scheduled to hear arguments Thursday from former President Trump’s lawyers, who argue that the charges in the Georgia election lawsuit target Trump’s core political speech and violate the First Amendment. He is expected to argue that the case should be dismissed based on the Articles.

The judge will also hear arguments on two pretrial motions from co-defendant David Schaefer, in which the former Georgia Republican Party chairman calls himself a “duly elected” state elector. Trump acted lawfully when he signed a document saying he won the state’s 2020 presidential election.

The debate is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
