Judge Acknowledges Barron Trump’s Role in Assisting Victim
A judge in London commended Barron Trump for his assistance during a violent incident involving a woman, which he facilitated through a video call.
Judge Joel Bennathan praised Barron’s actions on Friday while sentencing Matvei Rumyantsev, a 23-year-old from Russia, to four years in prison. During his remarks, Bennathan highlighted how Trump’s son helped prevent a potentially worse situation by swiftly communicating details to local authorities.
The former MMA fighter, Rumyantsev, had become jealous and on January 18, 2025, interrupted a FaceTime call between Trump and the woman, assaulting her as she pleaded for help. Barron Trump subsequently alerted the London police.
“Even though Mr. Trump is in the United States, he appropriately contacted emergency services and conveyed what he witnessed,” Bennathan remarked.
Rumyantsev was convicted of assault causing bodily harm and perverting the course of justice but was acquitted of charges such as rape and strangulation. The unnamed woman testified in court, expressing that Barron “saved my life.”
In a conversation with the emergency operator, Barron reportedly stated, “It’s a real emergency…I’m calling from the United States…I just got a call from a girl. You know, she’s been beaten up.”
Police quickly responded to the situation and arrested Rumyantsev at the scene.
Rumyantsev acknowledged in court that he felt jealous of Barron and believed the woman, his girlfriend at the time, was misleading him. His defense attorney, Sasha Wass, claimed that Barron was unaware of the woman’s relationship and suggested she used her connection to provoke Rumyantsev in what she described as a “drama-filled relationship.”
Barron did not appear in court to testify. Judge Bennathan characterized Rumyantsev as “a man driven by jealousy,” emphasizing a lack of empathy displayed during the trial. He remarked, “You continue to try to blame the plaintiff for everything that happened.”
Reports indicated that while incarcerated, Rumyantsev attempted to contact the woman via a letter, urging her to retract her allegations, which led prosecutors to charge her with perverting the course of justice.
