Judge Rules Against Post Office Ban on Firearms
On Tuesday, U.S. District Court Chief Judge Reed O’Connor upheld a September injunction that stops the Post Office from enforcing a ban on firearms for members of the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF). This decision also extends to members of the Firearms Policy Coalition.
According to Breitbart News, the initial injunction regarding the carry-on ban was issued in September 2025. The government moved to restrict the injunction’s application to only the specific plaintiffs and verified members of SAF and its affiliates at the time the lawsuit was filed.
In a statement on March 17, 2026, Chief Judge O’Connor confirmed the injunction and clarified that it applies to “all current and future members of the Firearms Policy Coalition and the Second Amendment Foundation.”
SAF Director-General Adam Kraut applauded the ruling, stating:
It was never constitutionally justified to disarm people who simply needed to go to the post office. The court confirmed that, in accordance with the law, all current and future SAF members are protected from enforcement of this ban.
SAF Founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb also expressed appreciation for the decision, noting, “I am encouraged by today’s ruling and the court’s rejection of the government’s arguments. Extending the injunction to all current and future SAF members aligns with established legal precedents, making membership in SAF a compelling reason to join.”
