A federal judge in Los Angeles on Monday denied Hunter Biden’s request to dismiss tax charges that accused the president’s son of a four-year scheme to avoid paying $1.4 million in taxes while living a lavish lifestyle.

Among U.S. District Judge Mark Scalsi’s arguments were that federal prosecutors bowed to pressure from Republicans and that the younger Biden was exempt from plea deals he had previously negotiated.

The move came after Hunter’s attorney, Abby Lowell, made her case in front of the judge for three hours. Judge Scalsi said he would issue a ruling by April 17.

Hunter Biden, 54, is accused of not paying $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019 while spending millions on drugs, escort cars, exotic cars and other big-ticket items. He pleaded not guilty.
