A federal judge in Los Angeles on Monday rejected a series of motions to dismiss tax claims brought by President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden, according to court documents.
Among the arguments that U.S. District Judge Mark Scalsi rejected in eight separate motions were that federal prosecutors bowed to Republican pressure and that Hunter Biden, 54, was exempt from a previously negotiated plea deal. It included an allegation that it had been done.
Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty to charges that he failed to pay $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019 while spending millions on drugs, escort cars, exotic cars and other big-ticket items.
The trial is scheduled to begin in June, months before Americans vote in November’s presidential election, and will pit Joe Biden, who is the subject of an impeachment inquiry, against four other presidential candidates. A close and serious conflict is expected between Donald Trump and Donald Trump. Criminal trial.
Hunter Biden, the first child of a sitting president to face criminal charges, also faces a separate criminal case in federal court in Delaware for allegedly purchasing a handgun while under the influence of illegal drugs.
He pleaded not guilty and made similar claims in this case, leading to the charges being dropped.
