Judge Sets Date for Alec Baldwin Manslaughter Trial

A New Mexico judge has set a date for Alec Baldwin’s manslaughter trial for October 21, 2021, nearly three years after that fateful moment.

Under the scheduling order, jury selection for the trial is set for July 9 of this year, and the trial is scheduled to begin the following day, July 10. New York Post:

The hearing is scheduled to last eight days.

Baldwin, the lead actor and co-producer of the film, pleaded not guilty in January, the day before his scheduled arraignment.

After prosecutors received new analysis of the revolver he was using during the shooting, a grand jury indicted him, renewing an indictment that prosecutors originally filed and later dismissed in April 2023.

October 21, 2021, filming a western movie rust, Alec Baldwin shot and killed cinematographer Halina Hutchins during rehearsals. Baldwin claimed that the revolver given to him by the AD suddenly went off when he pulled back the hammer, and he stressed that he did not pull the trigger.

A subsequent analysis of the firearm by the FBI concluded that “a trigger pull or sufficient pressure was required to release the hammer of the evidence revolver in a fully cocked or retracted position.”

Hannah Gutierrez-Reid, who was a weapons supervisor and armorer on the set of The Last at the time, was also charged with manslaughter in addition to evidence tampering.

Breitbart News reported, “Before the Baldwin case progressed, evidence had cleared a film weapons supervisor of manslaughter in the death of cinematographer Halina Hutchins at a movie ranch outside Santa Fe on October 21, 2021. He is on trial for falsification.”

“The armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, has pleaded not guilty and said she is not directly responsible for Hutchins’ death.” In court filings, lead defense attorney Jason Bowles said the “The workplace safety regulator has identified a wide range of issues,” it added.

“Prosecutors will present evidence that Gutierrez-Reed unknowingly brought live ammunition onto the set, where it was expressly prohibited. The armorer missed multiple opportunities to ensure safety and ultimately He claims he killed Hutchins by loading the gun with live ammunition.
