On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Eileen Cannon set a trial date for Nov. 18.th“Or, in some cases, shortly thereafter.”

Mr. Cannon also ordered Mr. Routh's legal team to be notified by November 17th.th at the latest if the client decides to plead guilty.

On Monday, Routh pleaded not guilty to five charges. In total, he faces charges of attempted assassination of a leading presidential candidate, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime, assault on a federal officer, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Initially, Routh was charged only with federal weapons charges. But a day after the release of a letter in which he openly talked about plotting to kill President Trump, Routh was finally found guilty of attempted assassination.

“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump that failed,” the letter said.

“We gave it our all, we gave it our all. It's up to you to finish the job. And we're offering $150,000 to anyone who can complete the job.”

Shortly after, his lawyer tried to argue that his client may have written the letter to spotlight his “defense of democracy in Ukraine and Taiwan.”

At Routh's last hearing, the judge ordered him held until his next court hearing.
