A Michigan judge was surprised when a man arrested for driving with a suspended license appeared before the judge on a courtroom Zoom call while still at the wheel.
On May 15, 44-year-old Corey Harris was seen on camera behind the wheel as Washtenaw County Judge J. Cedric Simpson looked on in shock.
“Mr. Harris, are you driving?” Simpson asks, the video shows. Posted by mlive.com.
Simpson casually admitted that he was.
“I’m actually just pulling up to my doctor’s office right now,” he says.
After he parked the car, Simpson accused him of flagrantly breaking the law.
“So maybe I don’t understand something. This is driving with a suspended license. [case]”He was just driving. He didn’t have a license,” Simpson told Harris’ lawyer.
Harris’ lawyer tried to explain that those were simply “allegations,” but Simpson countered, “No, I’ve looked at his record. He doesn’t have a license.”
“I don’t know why he did that,” Simpson said in the video. CBS NewsThe court later revoked Harris’ bail and sentenced him to prison.
“The defendant will report to the Washington County Jail by 6:00 p.m. today,” Simpson announced, and Harris’ expression clouded.
“Oh my goodness,” Harris says.
