DHS Visit to Argentina Aimed at Tackling Migration
This week, Julio Rosas from Blaze Media is in Argentina, embedded with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Kristi Noem’s office.
On Sunday, he traveled to Buenos Aires. It’s interesting, he said, “As we saw in the Biden-Harris administration, it’s not just about the Central American countries; people from South America are also taking advantage of Biden’s open borders.”
Rosas detailed their journey, starting from Washington, D.C., with a three-hour flight to Puerto Rico for a refuel, followed by another seven and a half hours to reach Argentina.
Noem’s DHS plans to initiate tours throughout South America, beginning in Argentina and extending to Chile and Ecuador. The goal is to sign agreements that would help tackle illegal migration to North America.
Rosas mentioned, “The Trump administration did secure the southern border, but their aim was to reinforce their earlier achievements.” He added that the current administration intends to enhance relationships with these countries.
The upcoming departmental agreement is focused on improving the sharing of foreign national criminal histories, as well as ensuring collaboration for deportation flights. Rosas shared that the schedule over the next few days includes cultural engagements and securing important administrative agreements.
On social media, he noted that Noem signed an agreement with Argentina’s national security minister, Patricia Brulich. This is supposed to facilitate Argentina’s eligibility for the visa waiver program and enhance efforts for more efficient repatriation.
Rosas emphasized Argentina’s record of having the lowest visa overstay rate in Latin America as a key reason for considering them for the program. He also mentioned that Noem had a meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei.
