Just 2 in 10 confident Trump can lower costs in first year: Survey

One survey found that only about 2 in 10 Americans say they are confident that President-elect Trump will be able to cut costs in his first year in office. new research From The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

In a poll released Thursday, 21% of adults said they were “very/extremely” confident in President Trump's ability to lower the cost of groceries and grocery items in 2025, while 19% said they had He answered similarly about President Trump's ability to lower housing costs in 2025. And 16 percent said the same about his ability to reduce health care costs in 2025.

A majority, 61%, say they have “some/not at all” confidence in his ability to reduce food and grocery costs in 2025. In 2025, housing costs will fall by 64%. And healthcare costs were reduced by 65%.

Among those who are “somewhat” confident that President Trump will reduce costs in 2025, 17% say so for food and grocery costs in 2025, and 16% say so for housing and health care costs in 2025. That's what I think about.

Slightly more Americans are confident that Trump will create more jobs in 2025: 27% are “very/extremely” confident and 18% are “moderately” confident. 54% were “somewhat/not at all confident”.

Food prices will be a key issue in the 2024 election cycle, with Trump often decrying the high prices of basic foods during his campaign.

Republicans are more confident than Democrats or independents that President Trump can cut costs in his first year in office, but that confidence is still modest.

Fewer than half of Republicans (44%) are “very/extremely” confident that Trump will be able to reduce costs, including food, in 2025. Housing costs are 39%. Medical costs are 33%.

The AP-NORC poll was conducted Jan. 9-13 among 1,147 adults and had a margin of error of 3.9 percentage points.
