The artificial intelligence agent, named “VIC,” who was running for mayor in Wyoming, was taken offline just before the recording. The technology was developed by Victor Miller, who works at the Laramie County Library.
Miller said he was planning to run for mayor of Victoria, but OpenAI removed his account just before the race. Fox News Digital report Miller still has access to the account he created for “VIC,” but said the company’s decision to suspend the account was a major blow to his campaign.
“Wyoming law clearly states that to run for public office you must be a ‘qualified elector,’ which means you must be a real person.”
Despite OpenAI’s decision, Miller said he plans to attend a public event in Laramie County on Thursday to show people in the area the power of “VIC.” He acknowledged that “there is no more VIC as it was before,” but added that he hopes this setback isn’t the end of AI’s role in politics.
“I’m a little conflicted, to be honest with you,” Miller said. “If I continue down the path of trying to help the town by providing access to this new technology, I think I’ll just continue down that path.”
“They are [OpenAI] It kind of forced me, in a way, to be part of the discussion about open models versus closed models and about fair and equal access to this new information. For me, it was a little bit bigger than what I wanted to do. To be honest, I just wanted to help my hometown.”
While Miller never imagined he’d run for office, he said the introduction of AI into politics could go some way to increasing transparency and accountability among the politicians elected by Americans.
However, the AI’s election campaign was ultimately called off on June 18. An OpenAI spokesperson said: He told CNN“We have taken action against this use of our technology as it violates our policy against political activity.”
Live Science report OpenAI prohibits users from using its technology for political campaigning or lobbying, including using AI to generate “deepfake” images.
“Wyoming law is clear that to run for public office you must be a ‘qualified elector,’ which requires that you be a real person,” Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray said. said in an email Wyoming Tribune Eagle.
“Therefore, AI bots are not qualified electors.”
