Justice Department officials endorse Harris: ‘The stakes could not be higher’

Former and current Department of Justice (DOJ) officials have endorsed Vice President Harris as a presidential candidate, saying “the stakes couldn’t be higher” and warning of the implications of former President Trump being re-elected.

Former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, along with more than 40 Justice Department officials, thanked President Biden for his years of service and his “historic decision to put country first and pass the baton to the next generation of leadership.”

The group said it, like Biden, enthusiastically supports Harris as the next president. NBC News.

“Vice President Harris is the best choice to defeat Donald Trump and lead the country. She has been a key partner with President Biden in rebuilding America and its place in the world.” They wrote in a statement:

The group highlighted Harris’ achievements as a senator and attorney general of California and said the “stakes could not be higher” in this election.

“Former President Trump poses grave risks to our country, our international alliances, and the future of our democracy. As president, he frequently disregarded the rule of law,” the Justice Department official said, referring to Trump’s Muslim travel ban and attempts to ignore the results of the 2020 election.

Trump is no stranger to the Justice Department. Special Counsel Jack Smith has two cases against the former president. The classified documents case was recently dismissed by a Trump-appointed judge, but a federal election interference case went all the way to the Supreme Court. The justices gave Trump broad immunity for conduct in office, but the case was sent back to court.

The group of Justice Department officials includes people who have served under presidents of both parties and whose tenure stretches back to 1988.

“We have all had the honor of serving as United States Attorneys, in other leadership positions at the United States Department of Justice, and as civic leaders,” they wrote. “We love our country and believe in its limitless potential. But it takes work. We call on all Americans to join us in supporting Vice President Harris for President of the United States.”
