Justin Fields Returns to Jets After Concussion
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Justin Fields was back on the field for the Jets on Monday night, following a concussion that kept him sidelined during their recent game in Tampa.
As he did in his initial appearance, Fields demonstrated glimpses of why the Jets were eager to have him lead their offense. He executed an impressive 43-yard touchdown on a scramble, which he humorously mentioned he’d love to track on GPS.
However, like much of his career, the game reflected a struggle, with an unbalanced field failing to provide sufficient passing opportunities amid various mistakes and penalties.
This marked the start of the Aaron Glenn era, with the Jets suffering a 27-21 loss to the Dolphins, which left them at 0-4 for the season.
Fields wrapped up the game rushing for 81 yards over 7 carries. He also completed 27 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown.
Throughout his career, Fields holds a record of 14 wins and 33 losses as a starting quarterback for the Bears, Steelers, and Jets. He initially performed well as the Jets aimed to establish a strong ground and pound offensive strategy.
With the Jets trailing 3-0, Fields started a drive from his own 14-yard line, advancing to the Dolphins’ 1-yard line before Breron Allen fumbled the ball.
During that drive, Fields had rushing gains of 6, 19, and 4 yards. Later in the second quarter, with the Jets down 10-0, Glenn opted against attempting a 55-yard field goal by Nick Fork, instead choosing to go for it on fourth and five from the Dolphins’ 38.
Unfortunately, Fields was sacked by Tyrell Dodson, which led to a fumble recovered by Miami’s Gelan Phillips. Nevertheless, after the Jets’ defense stepped up, Fields guided a 10-play drive that culminated in a long 58-yard field goal, reducing the halftime deficit to 10-3.
When the Jets regained possession, they found themselves down 17-3 after Isaiah Williams mishandled the kickoff and Tua Tagovailoa connected with former Giant Darren Waller for a touchdown.
Despite this, there was a notable highlight when Fields showcased his agility during a 43-yard touchdown run, skillfully dodging a defender and edging towards the end zone, bringing the score to 17-10.
After a two-minute warning, Fields connected with Garrett Wilson for a 23-yard touchdown pass in the right corner of the end zone, culminating in a two-point conversion that finalized the score at 27-21.
