Kagiso Rabada from South Africa suspended for passing a recreational drug test | South Africa cricket team

South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has announced that he is taking a temporary break after testing positive for recreational drugs. Currently ranked second in the International Cricket Council’s Test Bowling Rankings, Rabada returned home after participating in just two matches against the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League last month.

According to the Titans, his decision to leave was related to “critical personal issues.” The 29-year-old revealed that it was due to unfavorable results related to recreational substances.

As he prepares to lead South Africa in the upcoming final of the World Test Championship next month, Rabada has expressed remorse regarding his situation. He is uncertain about when he can return to play but is keen on moving past this incident.

“I’m truly sorry to those I’ve let down,” he stated in a message released by the South African Cricketers Association. “Playing cricket is a privilege that I will never take lightly. It’s more significant than my personal ambitions.” He mentioned a tentative suspension and expressed enthusiasm for rejoining the sport he loves.

“This moment won’t define me. I’m committed to working hard and pouring my passion and dedication into my craft,” he added.

Rabada once held the record for being the fastest bowler to reach 300 Test wickets, achieving this milestone in October of the previous year. He briefly topped the ICC’s Test Bowling rankings, having first reached that position in January 2018, but has since been eclipsed by India’s Jasprit Bumrah.

Rabada’s impressive track record includes an average of 22 across 70 Tests and contributing significantly with 168 wickets in 108 ODIs and 71 in 65 T20 Internationals.

The CSA and SACA have been approached for further comments.
