Kai Trump Faces Criticism in Golf Career

Kai Trump, the 18-year-old grandson of former President Donald Trump, is currently navigating the challenges of a budding golf career under the watchful eye of the public and its critics.

In a heartfelt discussion with her aunt, Lara Trump, the aspiring golfer shared insights on handling negativity. “I just stay away from it,” she mentioned during an interview on “My View with Lara Trump.” “It doesn’t really affect me because—even though I might not know—it doesn’t really matter. People will say whatever they want. I know who I am, and that’s what’s important.”

Kai recently entered the LPGA Tour, making her debut at the Annika event at Pelican Golf Club in Bellaire, Florida. Although her first outing didn’t exactly go as she hoped, she found value in the experience.

Reflecting on her nerves, she admitted, “The first day, I was more nervous than I’ve ever been.” While driving around in a golf cart with her aunt, she recalled, “Though I played well on day one, by the second day, I thought, ‘Okay, I don’t need to be nervous anymore.’ I did really well. It was just a great experience.”

In her first round, she scored 83, placing her last among 108 competitors. However, she rebounded, shooting a 75 in the second round. Unfortunately, that still didn’t qualify her for the weekend.

Despite the less than ideal results, many, including LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau, recognized her grit and potential. DeChambeau remarked on her second round, saying, “Five over is impressive. She handled herself very well out there, and it was a great opportunity.”

Looking ahead, Kai is set to join the University of Miami golf team next year. Her decision was largely influenced by the coaching staff and her love for Florida. “I didn’t want to be too far from home. The team is strong and the academics are solid,” she explained.

Regardless of how her debut went, Kai views this as just one step in her journey. She cherishes time spent on the course with her grandfather, describing those moments as “very special” and something she eagerly looks forward to.

Future Aspirations

Determined to improve, Kai has clear aspirations: “I’m heading to the University of Miami for four years to play golf. If opportunities arise to play in LPGA events, I’ll take them. After college, I want to turn pro. It’s definitely a big goal, but I know it won’t be easy,” she stated.
