Travis: Harris is the ‘backup quarterback’
Outkick founder Clay Travis opined that Kamala Harris could win the Democratic presidential nomination following President Biden’s withdrawal.
President Biden endorsed Vice President Harris, who withdrew from the race on Sunday, as the Democratic nominee for president in 2024.

“Kamala is a backup quarterback. Joe Biden is out of the game,” Travis explained. “For all of you who love watching football, here comes the backup quarterback. He normally has a high ceiling because he’s healthy, but he also has a low floor because he’s a backup for a reason. Kamala ran for president in 2020 but withdrew before a single vote was cast because the Democrats overwhelmingly rejected him. Remember that.”
Travis said there are two possibilities for Harris’ campaign.
“Can Kamala really be successful in a good way and actually rally together the Democratic identity politics base by focusing on abortion, on race, on breaking down the glass ceiling? She can, and she’ll operate at a higher level than Joe Biden,” he said.

“I would also say that given the panic this situation will cause, the American people will see this as a bait-and-switch tactic. They will feel that Kamala has reinforced the dishonesty of claiming that Biden is still the strongman, and they will say, ‘Actually, we hate Kamala,’ and she will actually end up being worse than Joe Biden.”
Travis predicted the latter is likely to happen in battleground states in the coming months leading up to the 2024 presidential election.
“Kamala has a higher ceiling but a lower floor. In other words, she’s a bigger risk and a bigger bet, and the range of her possible outcomes is larger.”
