Kamala Harris reportedly skipped vice presidential nominee Tim Walz’s speech at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night, preferring to watch the speech from her Chicago hotel room.
“The Vice President was not here tonight to hear an important speech from his running mate, Tim Walz,” it said. CNN “She was watching the speech from a hotel room in downtown Chicago,” a reporter said shortly after Walz’s speech finished.
The New York Post described Harris’ absence on Tuesday as “a clear disregard for the Obamas” and also noted a possible “rift” within the Democratic Party more generally.
According to a CNN caption, Harris called Walz before the speech and encouraged him to “enjoy the moment.”

It noted that she was not one of the Democratic Party’s “speech gurus,” and said she viewed Thursday night’s speech as an opportunity to reintroduce herself to Americans who may not be familiar with her.
The Blaze News reached out to Harris’ campaign for comment but did not receive a response by press time.
Wednesday marked the second consecutive day that Harris missed the party’s convention, which was aimed at building enthusiasm for the 2024 presidential campaign, which only officially began a few weeks ago.
On Tuesday, Harris left Chicago with Walz and traveled about 90 miles north to the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, where she spoke before about 15,000 supporters.
“This is the way things are,” Walz told an audience in Milwaukee as the Democratic National Convention remained in full swing in Chicago.
After the Fiserv rally, Harris encouraged the crowd to stay and watch that evening’s Democratic National Convention events on the Jumbotron, but most of the attendees dispersed after the rally and did not remain for the viewing party.
Wisconsin is a key battleground state that Harris needs to win in November to win the presidential election, but her trip to Milwaukee meant she was not present when former Democratic President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama spoke in Chicago on Tuesday night to promote her candidacy.
