Kamala Harris came within 20 feet of a planted pipe bomb on Jan. 6: report claims

A new report says Vice President Kamala Harris was just feet away from a “potentially detonable” pipe bomb placed outside the Democratic National Committee headquarters during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

A new report from the Department of Homeland Security’s internal watchdog, obtained by ABC News, says the pipe bomb was planted in bushes just outside the office.

“The pipe bomb was planted near the building the night before…” [a]”The Secret Service’s advance security of the Democratic National Committee building did not include the outdoor area where the pipe bombs were located,” the report claims.

“[Harris]”She traveled with the motorcade in an armored vehicle and entered the DNC building down a ramp within 20 feet of the pipe bomb,” the report said.

The pipe bomb was discovered an hour and 40 minutes after Harris entered the building, and it took the Secret Service 10 minutes to evacuate her, meaning she spent a total of an hour and 50 minutes inside, according to the report.

The report also said the two Secret Service dog teams assigned to search the building were “surprised” that they were not provided with additional assets to assist, and that Secret Service policy at the time required fewer assets for people who had been elected to public office but not yet sworn in, the report noted.
