Kamala Harris Criticizes Trump’s Actions in Venezuela

Former Vice President Kamala Harris voiced her disapproval on Saturday night regarding the Trump administration’s capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife, labeling the operation as both “illegal” and “unwise.”

In a detailed post on X, Harris referred to Maduro as a “brutal” and “illegitimate” dictator but argued that President Trump’s approaches in Venezuela wouldn’t contribute to making America “safer, stronger, or more affordable.”

“Donald Trump’s actions in Venezuela will not make America safer, stronger, or more affordable,” she stated. “While Maduro is a brutal and illegal dictator, this operation was still illegal and unwise. We’ve seen similar situations before.”

She remarked, “Wars driven by regime change and the pursuit of oil for military dominance have only led to chaos, with American families bearing the burden.”

Her remarks followed the confirmation from the Trump administration regarding the capture and extradition of the Maduros as part of what they called Operation Absolute Solution.

Harris also expressed concerns that the administration’s motivations stemmed more from oil interests than a genuine desire to combat drug trafficking or support democracy.

“American citizens don’t want this, and they’re tired of the deception. This isn’t about drugs or democracy; it’s about oil and Trump’s ambition to act as a regional strongman,” she said. “If he truly cared about those issues, he wouldn’t be pardoning convicted drug traffickers or sidelining legitimate opposition in Venezuela while engaging with Maduro’s allies.”

Harris, who is often mentioned as a possible candidate for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, accused Trump of jeopardizing U.S. military safety and causing regional instability.

“The president has endangered our troops, wasted billions, destabilized the area, and provided no legal justification or exit strategy, along with no benefits for Americans at home,” she added. “What America needs is leadership focused on reducing costs for working families, upholding the rule of law, strengthening alliances, and, crucially, putting Americans first.”

The Maduros were transported by helicopter from the Drug Enforcement Administration in Manhattan, arriving at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn late on Saturday.

On the same day, President Trump indicated that the U.S. government would “manage” Venezuela until a “safe, appropriate, and prudent transition of power” could occur.

As of now, Harris’ office has not provided immediate comments in response to requests for clarification.
