Vice President Kamala Harris made headlines Friday when she lamented the rising prices of American products that began “pre-pandemic” when former President Trump was in office.
Speaking in an economic policy speech in Raleigh, North Carolina, Harris blamed the inflation on supply chain crises during the coronavirus pandemic, but stressed that “prices remain too high” despite “supply chains improving.”
“A loaf of bread is 50% more expensive than it was before the pandemic,” Harris said. “Ground beef is almost 50% more expensive.”
Liberal Washington Post columnist points out that Harris’ price control proposal could be labeled “communist.”

The quote was quickly excised and a disclaimer, cut from the official campaign ad, was added to the end: “I am Donald Trump and I stand by this message.”
It was shared by popular X-account “End Wokeness” as “the shortest political ad I’ve ever seen” from former President Trump.
Some people took to social media to have fun mocking the Democratic candidate, and even bragged about how effective their parody ads were for Trump.
“Oh my goodness, this is tragic,” Fox News contributor Joe Concha responded.
“This is well done,” Outkick founder Clay Travis said. “Kamala just said in her economic speech that prices were much better when Trump was president, and now she’s making an ad for Trump.”
“This is so awesome,” posted former Trump aide Hogan Gidley.

The Trump War Room also mocked Harris, writing, “We truly appreciate her honesty.”
The post was viewed more than 2.5 million times in just a few hours.
The Harris campaign unveiled the first-ever federal price-fixing plan for businesses as part of a comprehensive effort aimed at reducing grocery prices and other everyday expenses.
“There is a big difference between fair pricing in a competitive marketplace and exorbitant pricing that has no relation to the costs of doing business,” Harris’ campaign said in a statement. “Americans can see the difference when they look at the price of their groceries.”

This proposal is Federal Trade Commission State attorneys general can impose stiff penalties if companies charge excessively high prices.
But some economists and financial experts have cast doubt on Harris’ plan, arguing that businesses have not played a significant role in driving up food prices.

Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell criticized the plan, writing, “It’s hard to overstate how bad this policy is.”
“If your opponent claims you’re a ‘communist,’ maybe they shouldn’t start with the economic policy that can (accurately) be called federal price controls,” Rampell wrote Thursday.
