Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris is a “fake,” Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), former President Donald Trump's running mate, said Tuesday. Her campaign and the establishment have tried to portray her as tough on the border and committed to border security, neither of which are true.
“Kamala Harris is a fake. If you want to build a border wall, start now!” Vance said. Spread the word Falsehoods that Harris supports a border wall and border security.

“If elected president, Kamala Harris has pledged to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on building a wall along the southern border, a project she opposed during the Trump administration and called 'un-American,'” the Axios article states, claiming that Harris has adopted a “harder immigration policy.” The problem is, the article notes that Harris has promised to sign a bipartisan border security bill, but the bill does not include any new funding for the wall. Axios actually points this out:
“They say that while the bill does impose new restrictions on how money can be spent on the barrier, it merely extends the deadline for spending the money allocated in the final year of Trump's term,” the outlet reported.

The Orwellian bill, drafted but not passed by the US Senate earlier this year, would allow up to 35,000 illegal immigrants into the US each week before additional border controls are put in place – the equivalent of 1.8 million illegal immigrants per year.
There is nothing in this bill that would overturn the catch-and-let-go rule.
A key point Vance makes is that Harris has been in charge of border security for over three and a half years under President Joe Biden and has done nothing to improve border security – in fact, she and Biden have reversed President Trump's policies.
“They stopped deportations on day one. They stopped construction of the border wall on day one. We see the border wall on the brink of completion, and yet it's not happening because of the Kamala Harris administration,” Vance said during an August visit to the border in Cochise County, Arizona.

“So every asylum seeker who comes to the border can now be released into the United States because they are not forced to stay in Mexico while their asylum claim is reviewed,” Vance continued. “And no matter how egregious and stupid these policies are, we must remember that they cause real human suffering,” he said, promising a different future under Trump and his leadership.
“We must reinstitute the remain in Mexico policy. We must end the capture and release policy. We must force asylum seekers to remain in Mexico while their claims are reviewed. And we must complete this border wall and reinstitute the deportation policy,” he said.
If people can come into this country and know they will never be deported, then the border is effectively open. That's what Kamala Harris promised. That's what Kamala Harris did, and Donald Trump and I promised to do the exact opposite.
Despite this reality, Harris' campaign has sought to portray her as tough on crime and the border, even featuring Trump's wall in one of her ads.

“It's ridiculous that she thinks she can run this ad on television and not be punished. She's blaming President Trump for opening the borders,” said Carolyn Leavitt, a national spokeswoman for the Trump campaign. Breitbart News Saturday.
“She's accusing President Trump of allowing a wave of violent crime. Anyone with common sense, eyes and ears who's lived through the last four years knows that's the exact opposite of the truth,” she said, adding, “They stopped President Trump's effective border wall. They reversed all of his effective policies. They ended Remain in Mexico and said to the world, 'Please come through.' That's why, as soon as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were inaugurated, we saw caravans of migrants coming from South America through Mexico wearing Biden-Harris T-shirts.”
“Never forget these images,” Leavitt added.
