Kamala Harris Leads in 2028 Democratic Primary Polls

Recent polls show Vice President Kamala Harris maintaining her position as the frontrunner in the 2028 Democratic primary race. Along with her political standing, a video of her that circulated online features her seemingly altering her accent while urging black women to assert their rights in politics.

A poll conducted by Echelon Insights from April 17 to 20 indicated that Harris garnered 22% support from a sample of 467 potential Democratic voters, making her the leading candidate.

Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, trailed closely with 21%, while former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg followed in third place with 12%. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York secured 10% of the votes.

Other candidates included Governor Josh Shapiro from Pennsylvania with 5%, Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey at 4%, and both Governor J.B. Pritzker from Illinois and Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona with 3% each. Senators Jon Ossoff from Georgia, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer each received 2% support.

Senators Raphael Warnock from Georgia, Wes Moore from Maryland, Chris Murphy from Connecticut, and Representative Ro Khanna from California each garnered 1% of the votes. Meanwhile, Governor Jared Polis from Colorado, Senator Ruben Gallego from Arizona, Senator John Fetterman from Pennsylvania, and former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel received no support.

Comparing this poll to Echelon’s earlier findings, Harris’s support increased by one percentage point, with Newsom and Buttigieg also seeing rises, while Ocasio-Cortez dipped by one point.

In another instance, a clip of Harris went viral, where she appeared to adopt a different speaking style. In the video, she expressed: “I think we can be a little transactional and say, ‘Buy mine too.’ So don’t expect me to just be a voter and a loyal Democratic, because those are my values and responsibilities.” Some viewers drew parallels between her sentiments and President John F. Kennedy’s renowned statement about civic duty.

On April 10, at Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network event in New York, Harris hinted that she “might” consider another presidential run in 2028, as audience members encouraged her to do so. However, in a recent discussion, New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani remarked that she’s not contemplating a presidential bid, stating, “Honestly, I’m not thinking about running for president this time. My focus is on 2026.”

Last week, Harris shared a video from Charlotte, North Carolina, in which she criticized former President Donald Trump for prioritizing his political agenda over the needs of working-class Americans. She noted that gas prices had risen by $15 since Trump’s actions began, revisiting discussions from her term as vice president, when fuel prices soared to unprecedented levels.
