Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris struggled to provide a clear response Thursday when asked about defamation allegations against her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.).
At her first press conference since launching her presidential campaign, Harris asked Walz about accusations that he lied about his military record.
According to Politico Playbook, these accusations include Waltz:
- Abandoning subordinates before they are deployed overseas.
- Lie about participating in the battle.
- He claims to have served in Afghanistan.
- exaggerate his status.
“I admire people who step up to serve our country, and I believe we should all do that,” Harris said, carefully responding to the question, appearing annoyed by the question.

Neither Mr. Walz nor Ms. Harris responded to the allegations made on Wednesday. Ms. Harris has not held a press conference in 19 days since becoming the party’s de facto nominee.
Harris promised to schedule the interviews “by the end of this month” after speaking with his team on Thursday, but it’s unclear if the interviews will take place in the last three weeks of August or before the end of the month.
Harris may not like unscripted events for two reasons: First, she has a penchant for rambling nonsense, and second, she seems to be trying to navigate intraparty policy disputes, with anonymous campaign staffers reportedly backtracking on five of her far-left policies.
