Kamala Harris Reflects on Political Journey and Future Aspirations

Kamal Harris, the former Democratic presidential candidate, is trying to reshape her narrative after significant losses in November, which are often viewed as a setback in her political career.

“I was a Democratic candidate for president,” she mentioned in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “I’m closer to victory. Of course.”

During her recent appearance in Philadelphia, where she promoted her new book, “107 Days,” which discusses her defeat to President Donald Trump in 2024, she opted not to address whether this book could signal a potential run for president in 2028.

Insiders suggest that the book and its reception hint at some instability in her position within the Democratic Party. A number of her long-time supporters seem ready to move on from Harris, feeling somewhat dissatisfied with her return. Notably, her book criticizes former President Joe Biden and discusses her running mate choices.

In her writing, she describes Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as overly ambitious and critiques former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in a candid fashion.

Former communications director Ashley Etienne commented that the book fails to highlight the accomplishments of the Biden administration and her own historic role as the first female vice president. “I would have suggested she focus on a project that reinforces her legacy,” Etienne shared with the Journal.

Faiz Shaquille, who managed Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign, noted that the book reinforces existing doubts regarding Harris. “The campaign lacked a clear, principled message,” Shaquille observed. “Blaming external factors instead of addressing one’s own shortcomings isn’t a strong indicator of leadership, and it could harm the Democratic Party.”

Despite the criticisms, Harris insists that her aim in writing the book was to provide an insight into her experiences as a presidential candidate. She remarked that Biden is “tired,” yet she stopped short of suggesting any incompetence on his part. “I remain loyal to President Biden, but more importantly, to my country,” she asserted.

Recently, Harris faced backlash from the more left-leaning faction of her party for not specifically naming socialist Zohran Mamdani in an interview. When pressed, she clarified, “No, I supported Mamdani.” She emphasized the importance of finding common ground within the party amid current tensions.

In February, she signed with the Creative Artists Agency for representation in speaking and publishing, reportedly seeking $250,000 for her speeches.
