Kamala Offers Boilerplate Response to Latest Trump Assassination Attempt

Vice President Kamala Harris may have sympathy for Donald Trump and his family following Sunday's assassination attempt, but the Democratic Party standard-bearer made it clear.

Harris issued little beyond a boilerplate statement condemning the violence after the Secret Service scrambled Trump away from a shooting near where he was playing golf in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“We have received reports of shots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida and are glad he is safe,” Harris said. Posts From her official White House account: “Violence has no place in America.”

The statement is similar to, but much shorter and more direct than, the one made on July 13 when President Trump was shot by an assassin who also shot others in the audience, one of whom died. read:

We have received reports of a shooting at a former President Trump event in Pennsylvania. Doug and I are relieved that he was not seriously injured. We are praying for him, his family, and all those injured and affected by this senseless shooting. We thank the U.S. Secret Service, emergency personnel, and local authorities for their swift action. Violence like this has no place in our country. We must all condemn this abhorrent act and do our part to prevent this from leading to further violence.

That same day, Harris spoke to Trump during a campaign event in Philadelphia. Just before the assassination attempt on Trump, Harris spoke to him. said Trump “should never have the opportunity to stand behind the microphone or seal of the president of the United States again.”
