Kansas Democrat Adam Hamilton Stated He Would Stand with ICE Protesters

Kansas Senate Candidate Comments on Protests and Immigration

Kansas Democrat Senate candidate Adam Hamilton recently expressed his thoughts on protests, saying that if the events occurring in Minneapolis were happening in Kansas City, he would want to join the protestors. His remarks were made during a January 22 episode of his podcast, Making Sense of Faith with Adam Hamilton, where he discusses various issues, including immigration.

Hamilton, who is running against incumbent Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS), reflected on the significance of being present during protests. He referred to a post he saw from a Minneapolis resident that stirred considerable discussion on his Facebook page. “If that was happening in Kansas City, I would want to be out there with people,” he remarked. He emphasized that, if it came to it, he would stand for those he feels are being unfairly treated, particularly highlighting a need for kindness towards ICE agents while also advocating against unjust practices like racial profiling.

“If they’re targeting people based on the color of their skin, then I think that’s a different story,” Hamilton noted, mentioning two young men from his church that he would support during such situations, hoping others would join him. He acknowledged that while he doesn’t believe this would happen to them, the ongoing issues in places like Minneapolis resonate with him.

His comments align with his broader views on immigration. In another instance, Hamilton relayed discussions he had with farmers in Scott City about market challenges linked to immigration policies. He shared these experiences in a March 10 post regarding his travels throughout Kansas, advocating for a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who contribute to agricultural sectors.

Hamilton has also been involved in immigration discussions at a national level, having served on President Barack Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. A report generated during his tenure highlighted that the absence of a pathway to citizenship leaves many hardworking individuals without the opportunity to thrive in the U.S.

Furthermore, he addressed the emotional toll of immigration enforcement during a 2018 sermon, referencing the distress of children separated from their families. His remarks struck a chord with biblical teachings, reinforcing his stance on the issue.

As the race progresses, Hamilton identifies himself as a “different kind of Democrat.” He has voiced support for Kamala Harris in the upcoming election, citing his concern for those who are vulnerable and calling out President Donald Trump for actions he believes disqualify him for leadership, even while emphasizing the importance of prayer for all leaders.
