Kansas Man Arrested for Threats Against President Trump
A man from Kansas has been taken into custody after allegedly threatening to shoot President Donald Trump. This incident has sparked a federal investigation ahead of Trump’s upcoming speech in Wichita.
The individual, Jaden J. Read, 24, from Clearwater, was charged with making threats against the president according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas. Read was arrested on Saturday, just two days before Trump’s scheduled visit.
The investigation started on October 15, when a tip to Crime Stoppers drew attention to comments posted under a KAKE News article on Facebook regarding Trump’s trip, prosecutors reported.
Read reportedly expressed his frustration in a post, stating, “Let’s shoot Trump honestly, where’s our shooter? I’m tired of living this money life.” He went further, claiming he had ammunition and that he wanted to kill the president.
Authorities discovered more concerning comments under a different article about Trump’s visit from KWCH 12 News. In one post, he allegedly wrote, “Can we shoot him in Kansas please I will myself.” This was alarming, to say the least.
Additionally, a minute later, Read asserted that he knew where Trump would be speaking, mentioning he had mapped out nearby rooftops. His comment read, “IK where your speech will be. Already mapped out roofs around. Finna get kirked since yall couldn’t help him,” as shared by the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Upon his arrest in Clearwater, Read was taken into federal custody. The authorities stated he will remain in custody until his detention hearing.
U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser remarked on the situation, emphasizing that political violence and threats will not be tolerated. He highlighted the importance of recognizing the limits set by the First Amendment, encouraging individuals to respect those boundaries when expressing disagreements.
