Los Angeles Mayor Reacts to DHS Operation

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has voiced her strong frustration regarding a recent operation conducted by the Department of Homeland Security in her city.

According to earlier reports, a Border Patrol agent encountered an undocumented immigrant in a Home Depot parking lot. The DHS stated that 16 undocumented individuals from Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua were arrested during this operation, referred to as “Trojan.”

She expressed her anger, stating, “For those who thought immigration enforcement had stopped in Southern California, think again.”

Bass labeled the operation as “unacceptable” and emphasized her efforts to ensure compliance with federal temporary restraining orders intended to curb claims of discrimination and racial profiling related to immigration enforcement.

She further noted that these deportation efforts are impacting the local economy. Many undocumented residents seem to be less visible in their communities. “When one wage-earner disappears, we need two, three, even four others to make ends meet,” she pointed out. “Losing that security doesn’t just destabilize a family; it disrupts neighborhoods, businesses, and entire communities.”

The Trump administration has signaled a commitment to enforcing federal immigration laws in Southern California. Gregory Bovino, the operating commander for California, shared a video showing agents making arrests of undocumented immigrants in areas impacted by the temporary restraining order.

Bill Essayle, representing U.S. Attorneys for the Central District of California, reiterated that federal law enforcement efforts cannot be negotiated and emphasized that no sanctuary is beyond the reach of federal oversight.

Attempts to reach the DHS for comment were unsuccessful before publication.
