Stephen Richer (R-Ariz.), No. 30th The Maricopa County Recorder filed a defamation suit in June, accusing Lake (R-Ariz.) of “repeatedly and falsely accusing” him of causing his loss in the Arizona gubernatorial race.
He was elected in November 2020 and assumed office in January 2021.
On Tuesday, Lake’s lawyers filed a motion for default judgment, saying the former Republican gubernatorial candidate is not contesting liability and is instead seeking to contest damages.
They added that Richer should also be required to produce relevant medical and psychiatric records as evidence of adverse health effects, as he alleges in his lawsuit.
Regarding the default judgment hearing, Lake requested that a jury be convened.
According to the complaint, his legal defense argued that Lake’s “knowing and malicious lies” made “Richer and his family the targets of threats of violence and even death that forever changed their lives.” claims.
In addition to Lake’s election theft allegations cited in the lawsuit, there was also her allegation that Richer tampered with ballots “to keep tabulators stuck all day long.” In a separate incident, Richer was also accused of “obstruction” on election day through his campaign’s official X (Twitter) account.
In the 2022 Arizona election, dozens of vote tabulation machines malfunctioned and refused to read ballots. Ultimately, changes made to the ballot papers were found to be the main culprit.
Lake criticized the lawsuit in an X video statement Tuesday.
“Joining this lawsuit will only legitimize this perversion of our legal system and allow bad actors to interfere in our next election,” she said. “So I won’t participate.”
Shortly after, Ms. Richer told Lake on “I stopped doing it,” he replied.
“However, we are pleased to begin an investigation into the damage,” he added. “Keep in mind that she says this case is a lot like the Rudy and Trump case. I have no problem with the final dollar figure.”
