At a press conference in Phoenix, Arizona, Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake said former President Trump, if re-elected, would quickly “end” the war between Russia and Ukraine in Europe and the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. I argued that it would be.
“If we get President Trump back in the White House, I think these wars will end quickly.” Lake said, to the media. “So I truly believe that President Trump is so pro-peace that he won’t have to keep funding endless wars.”
Lake, a pro-Trump candidate, narrowly lost the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial race to Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs. Mr. Lake, a former television anchor, contested his loss to Mr. Hobbs, claiming the election was stolen and not secure.
She announced her candidacy for the Senate in October and was quickly endorsed by President Trump. Lake is currently running against Representative Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) for the seat currently held by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.).
Mr. Lake, a strong ally of Mr. Trump, said Thursday that the former president “closely brought us world peace” during his time in office. She emphasized the fact that President Trump is “ending a war he didn’t start” and “never started a war.”
“Ever since Joe Biden took office, we’ve had all kinds of problems around the world. That’s why we need strong leaders, and President Trump is putting America first and putting the world first. He knows how to work with the leaders of the United States and I’m looking forward to that,” Lake said.
President Trump has maintained his position that if re-elected, he would “resolve” the war in Ukraine within 24 hours. Nearly a year ago, President Trump said he was scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, and that it would be “a very easy negotiation.”
President Zelenskiy has pushed back on his claims and has repeatedly invited President Trump to visit the front lines of the war to show that it is not that simple.
