Karine Jean-Pierre claims ‘war politics’ reason for Hunter Biden pardon — insists DOJ not weaponized as Trump claims

WASHINGTON – White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated Monday that President Biden pardoned his son Hunter because “war politics” prompted his prosecution on firearms and tax evasion charges, even as the judiciary The department maintained that it was not broadly politically biased. Donald Trump claims:

Jean-Pierre fielded heated questions from journalists aboard Air Force One as Biden, 82, flew to Angola for an official visit following his pardon Sunday night.

“The president took action because these events are politically infected,” Jean-Pierre told incredulous reporters.

One reporter asked, “For people whose names aren't Biden, isn't the system corrupted by politics?''

“You are distorting and misunderstanding what I am saying. I am talking about a specific issue,” Jean-Pierre said.

At one point, another journalist said, “He agrees with President-elect Trump that he believes the justice system is currently being weaponized for political purposes and needs fundamental reform.” Is that so?” he asked.

“No. Read the president's statement. Seriously read the president's statement. He said he trusts the Department of Justice. He does. He says so in his statement. “He also believes that war politics infected the process, which led to miscarriages of justice,” she said.

Mr. Jean-Pierre, in a sometimes tense exchange, said Mr. Biden had called for the resignation of Attorney General Merrick Garland, even though Mr. Biden had led the department during what Mr. Biden described as a “political prosecution.” He said no.

Before granting the pardon, Biden and Jean-Pierre repeatedly insisted that there would be no pardon for their eldest son, that it was important to respect the legal system, and that the four criminal cases filed against Trump were political. He criticized Trump, claiming that the attack was motivated by personal motives.
